The layout of this room was common to most laundries of the period. The twin cement tubs are accompanied by the manual clothes wringer and gas heated boiler. Washday, as in most Australian households, would no doubt have occurred on a Monday.

One can only imagine what it must have been like for the Chifleys to have used this room on a chilly Bathurst morning! Its outside access highlights the austere nature of the room with its simple hand basin and shaving cabinet together with the ‘Metters Ltd’ gas heater used to supply hot water to the bathtub and shower.
